ChildFund on Thursday (be specific) handed over medical items and pharmaceuticals worth over two million dollars to the Ministry of Health. The items were donated in partnership with MAP International, who specialises medical and health supplies production and distribution.

The 40-foot container includes examination gloves, assorted surgical gloves, face masks, gowns, amoxicillin tabs and oral suspension, among others.

Speaking at the Central Medical Store in Kotu, Karamba Keita, deputy permanent secretary, Technical, at the Ministry of Health, commended ChildFund for their support, saying institutions like ChildFund recognises that the government needs her partners to compliment their efforts.

While thanking their staff for their efforts, he assured them that the items will be put into good use. “It will reach people who really need them through our efficient supply chain management in this ministry,” he noted.

Nfamara Dabo, programme and sponsorship director, ChildFund, said their partnership with MAP International has helped them further their mission through the donation of medical and pharmaceuticals.

These items, he added, are expected to provide quality, affordable and accessible medical health care to the vulnerable children and their families in The Gambia.

“Before any shipment is negotiated, an offer with a list of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals is sent from our International Office (IO) which is further shared with the Ministry of Health for them to select the most needed items in our health facilities. The final list is then shared with IO for approval which they send to MAP for shipment.” Dabo pointed out

Fatou Lamin Samateh, principal pharmacist, National Pharmaceutical Services at the Ministry of Health, said ChildFund has been greatly valuable to her ministry over the years, adding that they received a 40-foot container full of essential medical items including antibiotics, painkillers, protective equipment, wheelchairs, among others.

She said all the donated items will be distributed across public medical health facilities in the country.

The contribution, she stated, is a huge boost to the country’s health sector, but was quick to add that they will continue to request for more from ChildFund, given the huge challenge of providing affordable medical care for all people living in The Gambia.

In 2025, ChildFund Gambia allocated 92% of its total operating expenses to programs supporting vulnerable children, families, and communities.
