Every Child Matters, No Matter Where They Live.

We go where the need is greatest, working in 7 regions to to help children grow up healthy, educated, skilled and safe.

ChildFund The Gambia works with three dedicated local partner organizations and supports 32 vibrant community associations to implement its child sponsorship program across 9 districts in the Western and Lower River Regions. These districts include Kombo North, Kombo South, Kombo Central, Kombo East, Foni Jarrol, Foni Bintang, Foni Bondali, Foni Brefet, and Foni Kansala. In these areas, we walk alongside children to ensure they grow up healthy, educated, skilled, and safe.

Beyond sponsorship, our work reaches all 7 regions of the country through non-sponsorship funds, gifts-in-kind, grant-supported projects, and advocacy efforts that improve the lives of even more children and families.

When Communities Lead, Change Is Lasting

At ChildFund, we believe lasting change for children begins right where they live, with their families and communities. That’s why our programs are rooted in the community. We partner with those who know the challenges best to build solutions that truly work. As communities grow stronger and more self-reliant, we move on to where support is needed most. Together, child by child and community by community, we co-create environments where every child can thrive—growing up healthy, educated, skilled and safe.

Before

For over 130 years that Kerr Gibel village (Nianija District) has existed, the community relied on an uncovered open well as their sole source of drinking water. This well, which posed significant health risks due to contamination, required community members to spend hours drawing water using 20-liter containers This well serves as the only source of water for the community that reportedly has over 200 inhabitants. During the rainy season, the water contained visible particles, making it particularly unpalatable. The lack of clean water also impacted children's education, as many children arrived late to school due to the time-consuming process of fetching water.

After

After the installation of the borehole in March 2024, the community now has access to clean, safe drinking water. The new solar-powered source is a modern, covered borehole that provides water free from contamination, significantly improving the health and well-being of the community. The borehole is conveniently located, reducing the time and effort previously spent fetching water, allowing the community, especially schoolchildren, to focus more on their daily activities.

“Being one of few local NGOs operating in this volatile region, the southern border of The Gambia and Senegal where frequent skirmishes between the Movement for Democratic Forces of Cassamance, popularly known as the MFDC, Foni Ding Ding Federation is able to support tens of thousands of people displaced every year by fighting between the rebels and the army. Our partnership with ChildFund makes it possible to reach children and displaced families to support them to re-settle and have access to basic needs including healthcare, food, clothing and education for their children.” ~ EDI BAH, FEDERATION MANAGER, FONI DING DING FEDERATION
